Connect tools and knowledge

HTTP tools, MCP connections, skills, and knowledge bases for your agent.

An agent answers better when it can look up data or follow procedures. Create each component once and use it in any agent you want.

Knowledge bases#

The agent searches them to answer with your information: FAQs, policies, prices.

"Create a knowledge base 'Policies' and add this text about shipping and returns: …"

  1. create_knowledge_base creates the base.
  2. add_knowledge_text adds the text as a Markdown document.
  3. start_knowledge_ingestion indexes it. It runs in the background, and the chatbot follows it with get_knowledge_ingestion.
  4. Finally, the chatbot adds the base to the agent's draft.

Tip

For PDFs, Word, Excel, or images, the chatbot gives you the link to the base in the console. There you upload the file, review the conversion, and index it.

Skills#

A skill is a procedure the agent loads only when the conversation needs it, such as "how to process a return". That keeps its instructions short.

  • From the Productos AI catalog: "Search the catalog for a skill to book appointments." The agent can use it as is, or you can copy it to edit it (copy_catalog_skill).
  • Your own: "Create a skill 'returns' with these steps: …"

HTTP tools#

They let the agent call your API, for example to check an order's status.

"Create a tool that looks up an order with GET to https://api.mystore.com/orders, with the order number as the id parameter."

With test_http_tool you see the request it would send, without sending it.

Important

If your API requires authentication, the tool only names the secret and never carries its value. Coordinate with Productos AI on how to set it up.

MCP connections#

They connect the agent to another MCP server, such as your CRM, so it can use its tools.

  • Without authentication: the chatbot connects it, tests it with test_mcp_connection, and shows you its tools. You can enable only some of them.
  • With a token or OAuth: the chatbot creates nothing and gives you the console link to enter the token or authorize access. Then go back to the chatbot to add it to the agent.

Your plan limits how many of your own MCP servers you can connect. The ones from the console's marketplace don't count.
